William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration Part-Time Faculty

Part-time faculty members play a very valuable role within the academic community by augmenting the teaching effort of full-time faculty. According to the Northwest Council on the Accreditation of Colleges and Universities part-time and adjunct faculty are qualified by academic background, degree(s), and/or professional experience to carry out their teaching assignment and/or other prescribed duties and responsibilities in accord with the mission and goals of the institution. In the College of Hotel Administration p art-time faculty also possess unique skills and abilities that can enrich students learning experiences. Part-time faculty normally teach a maximum of 2 classes (6 credits) per semester.

Hiring Criteria
Academic Credentials : The College of Hotel Administration requires that all part-time instructors teaching undergraduate courses have a minimum of a Bachelors degree in a related field along with extensive relevant work experience. A Masters degree is preferred especially for upper division (300-400) courses. Teaching at the graduate level requires a Masters degree; a doctorate is preferred.

Official Transcript : An official transcript from the appointee's highest degree must be provided. The official transcript must be sent directly from the candidates' alma mater with the official seal.

Vita and References : The candidate must provide a current vita and complete contact information for two references.

Orientation
Part-time faculty participate in a university orientation addressing the policies and procedures for employees and a department orientation that focuses on issues including course structure, administrative procedures, class policies, webcampus, and webgrading. At the conclusion of the semester, the department chair will undertake an evaluation of the part-time faculty members teaching.
