RECREATION MAJOR: PROFESSIONAL GOLF MGT.



PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Admission Requirements
A student seeking admission into the PGM Program must meet all UNLV entrance requirements including a high school GPA of 2.5. In addition, applicants must have submitted a golf handicap of 12 or less verified by the United States Golf Association (USGA), a PGA golf professional, a high school golf coach, or successfully passed the PGA Playing Ability Test (PAT).

Course Requirements
The PGM curriculum (PDF document) consists of 124 credits in four primary areas:
General Education…………....………47 credits
Recreation Major……………..……….43 credits
PGM Concentration ………….……...28 credits
Electives……………………..……....….. 6 credits

Graduation Requirements
Students graduating from the PGM Program must complete all required courses in the curriculum and achieve a 2.5 grade point average for 124 academic credits. Prior to graduation from the PGM program, students are required to pass the Playing Ability Test (PAT), complete PGA/PGM checkpoints for Level I, Level II, and Level III seminars. Additionally, all students must fulfill the 16-month internship requirement.

Internship Requirements
The PGM internship is considered to be a full-time work experience that encompasses 40 hours per week at a recognized golf facility under the direction of a PGA Professional. Successful completion of 16 months of internship experience is required of each student seeking a Bachelor of Science with a major in Recreation with a concentration in Professional Golf Management.

PGM HOME GOLF COURSE

Partnering with the PGM Program, American Golf provides our students with extensive access to 4 playing and practice facilities. Las Vegas National is the PGM home course, located only five minutes from the UNLV campus. Painted Desert, Las Vegas Golf Club, and Desert Rose Golf Club provide an additional golf course access for the PGM student for the PGM student.

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The Player Development Program provides PGM students with the opportunity to practice under supervision of PGA Professionals. Each student will be part of a team consisting of 8 to 12 players. Students particpate in video analysis instuction and learn to evaluate personal strengths and weaknesses.

PGM STUDENT ASSOCIATION

The PGM Student Association provides our students with the opportunity to meet regularly as a group and develop friendships, discuss relevant issues, sponsor guest speakers, organize social events as well as administer PGM association tournaments and leagues.

UNLV offers many opportunities for students to get involved in leadership development and extra-curricular activities. The Moyer Student Union facility provides student services, conveniences and amenities including the Union Café, information desk, and social lounges and meeting rooms. Student activities and campus-wide events are planned throughout the year focusing on celebrations and traditions that involve the entire campus community. Festivities such as Welcome Week, Premier UNLV, Homecoming, Unityfest and Spring Fling provide opportunities for students, faculty and staff to participate in the life of the campus while working in partnership, celebration and fun.
