Patti has been at UNLV since 1988. She served as Chair of the Tourism and Convention Administration Department for almost 20 years before stepping down to take the distance learning position. Prior to joining the faculty at UNLV, she chaired the Hotel, Restaurant & Travel Administration Department at Georgia State University in Atlanta for almost 10 years.  She currently teaches on-premise catering online.

She has developed and manages an online Webinar Series. http://www.unlvwebinars.com

She produces the Harrah International Hospitality and Convention Summit, an academic conference for the presentation of industry research.

She co-authored the texts, "Hotel Catering: A Handbook for Sales and Operations," and "A Club Manager's Guide to Private Parties and Club Functions"  and "On-Premise Catering" , "Restaurant Marketing for Owners and Managers" and A Meeting Planner's Guide to Catered Events - (available in 2008) all published by Wiley.

Patti wrote the F&B Chapter for "Meetings, Expositions, Events and Conventions: An Introduction to the Industry," by Fenich. Patti also wrote the Food and Beverage chapters for the PCMA, IAEE, CIC books and the and the "Using the Internet" chapter for the 7th Edition of the Convention Industry Council Manual.  And she co-authored chapters in several hospitality intro books on catering and tourism.  She is spearheaded the Terminology Panel for the Convention Industry Council's APEX initiative - to essentially standardize industry terminology and 'write' the dictionary.

Patti holds the Certified Professional Catering Executive (CPCE) designation from NACE and has served on the Board of the Foundation of NACE. She is on the Advisory Board for CaterSource.

She has served on the IACVB Educator Think Tank, and the IAAM Research Task Force.

While at GSU, she served on the Boards of the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Georgia Hospitality and Travel Association.  She also started the largest collection of food materials in the Southeast at the GSU Library.

She has also written on web matters for the Journal for Convention & Exposition Management, both from the Haworth Press. She has written a variety of articles for industry publications, including Expo, Catering Magazine and the Professional Caterer. She has been published in academic journals, including the Cornell Quarterly and the Journal for Travel Research. She authored the Food and Beverage chapters in the PCMA Professional Convention Management book, IAEE's The Art of the Show and the Convention Industry Council's CIC Manual. 

 

She serves on PCMA's Student and Faculty Activities Working Group and IAEM's Student Task Force. 
 

She holds Bachelor and Master's degrees in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of Southern Mississippi.  Her family was in the restaurant business in her hometown of Oakland, California.
